Again, there is no established rules since deals are made between private persons. Nothing can prevent you to exchange your boat for a smaller or bigger one. What prevails is the destination you have chosen and your sailing program when you select a boat. Of course, if you propose to exchange your boat for a much bigger one you can expect lots of questions about your sailing experience on large boats from the other owner.
It is also possible to exchange a sailing boat for a power boat. The respective experience of both owners with each type of boats will be the relevant factor to make this sort of swap confortable for both parties.
